Ellen's Local Meat and Egg Sources

Here I have listed some of my sources for local meat and eggs. Hope this is useful for you.
Baucom’s Best:
All grass-fed/pasture raised cattle. They have just about any cut of beef you could want. The farm is in Union County, but Harriet Baucom (she and her husband are the owners) is very willing to bring the beef to you (as long as you don’t’ have a big rush for it). They are also at the Charlotte Regional Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.

Grateful Grower’s:
All free range, hormone and antibiotic free, humanely treated animals raised on 10 acres in Denver, NC. Natalie and Cassie (the owners of Grateful Grower’s) sells all kinds of pork cuts, chicken and eggs as well as some organic produce. You can find them through their website or at the Charlotte Regional Farmer’s Market and the Matthews Community Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings (this is their first year there!).

Weatherbury Station:
Gordon Whitsed is the owner of this farm and is delightful. His farm is in Burke County, specifically in Tazewell, Virginia. Gordon offers all pasture raised, hormone and antiobiotic free, humanely treated pigs, chickens and lambs. He has all kinds of cuts of pork and lambs (including sausages, uncured bacon and even whole hogs if needed!) and also sells chicken a couple of times a year and wonderful eggs from free range hens. Gordon comes to the Kings Drive Farmer’s Market on Friday mornings where he will be glad to talk with you about his farm. If you want to get on his mailing list so you know what he is bringing to market and so you can reserve some cuts (he runs out fast) just send him an email.
